Were you looking for Fences instead? Fence Gates is a Build Mode section that was added in v0.8.7 . Fence gates must be placed into a fence in order to be built. The purpose to fence gates are to allow entry for one player, or to block entry for a player. Like doors, you can lock for guests and players without guest or roommate will not be able to open the fence. Players often cover their plots in fences, and then put the matching fence gate up.

Before this update was added, people were using Crates and Traditional Bookshelf Secret Doors to create gates.
